Superabsorbent dressing is one of the best dressings to absorb the natural wound exudates, which has considerable absorption rate. The management and absorption of very high amounts of wound exudates can be done using this dressing.

Superabsorbent dressing applications

The most important applications of superabsorbent dressing include a wide range of wounds with moderate to high exudates. Other applications of this dressing are as follows:

• Diabetic foot ulcer
• Pressure ulcers
• Venous ulcers and leg cramps
• First- and second-degree burn wounds
• Post-surgical wounds
• Wounds caused by accidents

Superabsorbent dressing advantages

Superabsorbent dressings consist of three layers, including a hydrophilic layer, a central layer, and a hydrophobic layer. The hydrophilic layer is placed on the surface. And, its role is to absorb the wound exudates and transfer them to the center, which enables dressing not to adhere to the wound. Central layer keeps the wound exudates through exerting pressure, so it reduces the risk of maceration. Hydrophobic layer prevents the wound exudates from returning to the wound. It should be noted that this absorption mechanism is based on the presence of SPA polymer in the dressing structure.
